At Mikel Dewisme, your privacy is my highest priority. This policy explains how Lumi handles your information.
Executive summary
I do not collect, store or share any personal data of yours. I have no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. I never see what you write.
Your entries live on your device. If you turn on Lumi Pro, they also sync to your own iCloud, the Apple account you already use. They stay yours: I have no access to them at any point.
Information I collect
None. Lumi collects no personal data, no usage information, no analytics and no other kind of information.
Where your data is stored
On your device
- Your journal entries are stored on your iPhone or iPad.
- The photos you add are stored alongside the entry they belong to.
- Your preferences and settings are on your device.
- I use no servers of my own or of third parties to store your content.
In your iCloud, if you turn on Lumi Pro
- Syncing between devices is a Lumi Pro feature. It uses CloudKit, Apple's technology, and stores your entries in the private database of your own iCloud account.
- That space is yours, not mine. It is tied to your Apple account and I cannot query it, read it or recover it. Apple gives me no access to it.
- Apple encrypts that data in transit and at rest. If you have iCloud Advanced Data Protection turned on, it is also end to end encrypted.
- Syncing requires you to be signed in to iCloud on your device. With no iCloud session, Lumi works the same but everything stays local.
- You can stop syncing at any time from iOS Settings → your name → iCloud, by turning off Lumi. And you can delete the copy stored in iCloud from the same place.
Apple Health (optional)
- If you turn on the Apple Health integration, Lumi writes your emotional state into Apple's Health app.
- Lumi never reads data from Apple Health.
- This integration is entirely optional.
- You can revoke the permission at any time from Settings → Health.
Purchases and subscriptions
- Lumi Pro purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. The payment never goes through me.
- I never see your payment details. Not your card, not your name, not your address, not your email.
- The only thing Lumi asks Apple is whether your account has an active subscription or purchase, so it can unlock the features. That check happens on your device.
- Like any developer, Apple gives me aggregated, anonymous sales reports. They do not identify any person.
Camera and photo use
- Lumi asks for access to your camera and photos only in order to add images to your entries.
- Photos are stored with the entry, on your device. With Lumi Pro they sync to your iCloud like the rest of the content.
- They are not sent to any server of mine, not analysed, and not shared with third parties.
Notifications
- Lumi can send you local reminders to keep up your writing habit.
- Those notifications are generated on your device. There is no server behind them.
- With syncing on, Apple sends silent notifications between your devices to signal that there are changes. They are part of iCloud, they carry no content from your entries, and I have no part in them.
- You can turn the reminders off at any time.
Sharing data with third parties
Never. I do not share, sell, rent or transfer your data to any third party under any circumstances. Simply because I do not have it.
Third party services
Lumi does not use:
- Analytics services
- Advertising services
- Tracking services
- Third party SDKs that collect data
Lumi does use Apple's own platform services (iCloud for syncing and the App Store for purchases), which are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Security
- On your device, your data is protected by iOS security measures.
- In iCloud, by Apple account encryption and protections.
- If you turn on the PIN or Face ID lock in Lumi, your entries have an extra layer of protection.
- I recommend keeping your device up to date and using two factor authentication.
Your rights
Because your data is on your device and in your iCloud account:
- Access: you have full access at all times, without asking me.
- Deletion: you can delete any entry, or the whole app. If you have used syncing, you can also delete the iCloud copy from iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage storage.
- Full control: you decide what happens to your information. I could not intervene even if I wanted to.
Changes to this privacy policy
- I will update the "Last updated" date whenever there are changes.
- I will tell you in the app if the changes are significant.
- The current version will always be available on this page.
Minors
Lumi is designed for users aged 13 and over. I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you are a parent and you believe your child under 13 uses Lumi, get in touch.
